On August 12, 2024, the Department of Mathematics at Pavai Arts and Science College for Women conducted a webinar on the topic ‘Boost Your Learning: Must-Have Online Tools for Success.’ The event took place in Keerthi Hall at 11:30 a.m. through Google Meet, with all UG and PG students of the Department of Mathematics in attendance.
The program commenced with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address delivered by S. Logapriya of III B.Sc. Mathematics. T. Jayavarthini of III B.Sc. Mathematics introduced the guest speaker, Dr. V. Parthiban, Associate Professor (Senior Grade 2) in the Mathematics Division at the School of Advanced Sciences, Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai.
Dr. Parthiban’s lecture focused on five essential AI tools, including ChatGPT, GeoGebra, and Wolfram Alpha, among others, highlighting their capabilities in providing quick and effective solutions to everyday challenges.
During the session, the speaker explained how ChatGPT can assist with a wide range of tasks, from drafting emails to explaining complex concepts. GeoGebra, a tool primarily used for geometry, algebra, and calculus, was praised for its ability to help students visualize and solve mathematical problems interactively. Wolfram Alpha, known as a computational search engine, was discussed for its role in providing precise answers to factual queries, performing complex calculations, and generating data visualizations.
These tools were commended for their user-friendliness and their integration into daily life to simplify learning and problem-solving. The webinar emphasized the importance of leveraging these AI tools not only for academic purposes but also for personal growth and productivity.
Overall, students were encouraged to explore these tools to enhance their learning experiences and make daily tasks more efficient. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by V. Sowmiya of II B.Sc. Mathematics, followed by the National Anthem.
