On 24th April 2024, Department of Geology conducted a seminar on the title “Astronomy from Past to Present”. The programme commenced with the prayer song. Ms. S. Harini of II B. Sc. Geology welcomed the gathering and Ms. S.Sivadharshini introduced the chief guest, Mrs D. Mekala, M.Sc., M.Phil. in Mathematics, Secretary of Salem Astro Club, Treasurer of Tamilnadu Astronomy and Science Society.
The Chief Guest in her special address presented a power point presentation on Astronomy from past to present. She gave introduction about Solar System and explained James web telescope and Hubble space telescope which is used to discover comets and planets. She elucidated how space is connected with Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry and also described the origin of space and its overall evolution. Then she arranged for the telescopic view of a temple on a hill near our college campus. The session was very informative and knowledgeable and the students gained interest on astronomy from a fabulous invested speaker.
The seminar came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. A. Harinisri of I B.Sc. Geology.
