The Department of Computer Science conducted a webinar titled “Introduction to Cyber Threats” on September 23, 2024. The program commenced with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address from Ms. A. Asmitha of II B.Sc (CS).
Ms. C. Harini of II B.Sc (CS) introduced the guest speaker, Dr. K. Shanmugam, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SRM Valliammai College of Engineering, Kattankulathur, Chennai. In his lecture, he provided a brief introduction to cyber threats, explaining how they occur, the differences between legal and illegal hacking, and how individuals can protect themselves from unauthorized access. He also elaborated on various types of hacking with real-world examples, making the topic easy to understand. Additionally, he discussed key terminologies in hacking, the future scope of the Cyber Security field, and the importance of studying Computer Science in today’s world. Finally, he shared insights on secure websites and online safety practices.
Students listened attentively and engaged in a lively interaction with the expert. Ms. V. Kokila of II B.Sc (CS) delivered the vote of thanks, and the program concluded with the National Anthem.
