On October 3, 2024, the Department of Computer Science hosted a webinar on the topic “Data Visualization Techniques for Effective Decision Making.” The program began with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address delivered by Ms. S. Jayasri, a student of II B.Sc CS (AI & DS).
Ms. M. Pavithra of II B.Sc CS (AI & DS) introduced the guest speaker, Dr. R. Suganthi, Professor in the Department of Computer Science with Data Analytics at Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. In her talk, Dr. Suganthi provided a concise introduction to data visualization, explaining its significance in academia, the tools used, and how it can be employed to highlight trends and outliers. She also discussed COVID-19 dashboards and other real-time examples, demonstrating how data visualization plays a critical role in various fields, especially for executive stakeholders needing to make informed decisions. Furthermore, she emphasized how strong visualizations can distill important information, remove noise from data, and effectively tell a story. The webinar highlighted expert strategies for presenting complex data in a simple, compelling manner.
