A Symposium on the topic, ‘The Essentials of Data Science’ was conducted by the Department of Computer Science of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women on 23.09.2019 in Keerthi Hall at 11.00 a.m. Around 35 students from various colleges and UG and PG students of Pavai attended the symposium. The Inaugural session of the programme started with the prayer song by the students. The dignitaries along with the Guest Speaker lighted the Kuthuvilakku. Ms.R.Pushparagini of I B.C.A. welcomed the gathering. Shri CA N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions, presided over the function and in his Presidential Address he stated that the purpose of symposium is to gain knowledge, work as a team, bring out the inner potentials and shape oneself to face any kind of situations. Smt Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions, in her felicitation address, stated that students should celebrate academicians in particular and women on the whole so that they can achieve success. She asked the students not to let other women down, expect no lenience from opposite gender and flourish in life with positive attitude. Ms. A.V.Fathima of I B.Sc. Computer Science introduced the Guest Speaker Dr.K.Akilandeswari, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science, Government Arts College, Salem-7. The Guest speaker in her special address described about the impacts of Data Science. She also explained the enormous opportunity available for the students on learning Data Science. She concluded that everyone should be updated to the latest version, so that they can enhance themsleves to higher positions. Soon after the special address, Paper presentation session was held in which 12 papers were presented by the students. In the afternoon, events such as Debugging, Adzap, Quiz, Short Film and Logo creation were conducted. Muthayammal College of Arts and Science got the Overall Championship. Selvamm Arts and Science College got second place and Kavitha’s college of Arts and Science got third place. Principal madam distributed the certificates and trophies to the participants and the winners. Ms.J.Mounika of III B.C.A. proposed the Vote of Thanks and the symposium came to an end with National Anthem.
