Department of Geology conducted a webinar on the title ‘Fundamentals of igneous and Metamorphic petrology’ 22nd July2021 through Google Meet. The programme was anchored by Ms. Arthi of II B. Sc Geology. The programme commenced with the prayer song by Ms. Dharani of III Bsc geology. Ms.S. Zuvairiya of III BSc Geology welcomed the gathering.
Ms. D. Priyadharshini, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology introduced the chief guest. The Guest speaker Dr.V. Ram Mohan, Retired Professor of Department of Geology from University of Madras at Chennai, in his speech said the mechanisms of magmatic evolution. He also explained the Bowens reaction series, classification of igneous rocks, etc. He also showed the pictorial representation of magmatic evolution, assimilation, continental breakup and large igneous provinces. He then gave some tips and ideas to the students to easily identify the rock name based on essential minerals present in the rock. He concluded the speech by stating the importance of study of petrology and also about plate tectonic moments and magma generation.
The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. D. Shivani of I BSc Geology.
