Department of Geology and Chemistry conducted a seminar on the title “Geology in mankind” on 18th August 2022. The programme commenced with the prayer song. Ms. P. Tharanika of III B. Sc. Chemistry welcomed the gathering and Ms. R. Abinaya subasri introduced the chief guest.
Prof. Dr. N. RAJESHWARA RAO (Retd), Department of Applied Geology, University of Madras, delivered the speech. Very informative and knowledge gained seminar for budding geologist and chemist by great content from a fabulous invested speaker Dr. N. Rajeshwara Rao sir.
In morning session he gave introduction about crust, core and mantle in which different types of chemical compositions are present like silica, magnesium, nickel, iron, aluminium etc and how it can be analysed by chemist in laboratory using titration method.
He also explained about James web telescope and also about Hubble space telescope which is used to discover comets and planets. And also he described about the crystallography systems, order, symmetry, etc.
He inculcate about mineralogy and also about different types of microscopes like electron microscope, scanning probe microscope which are used by the geologist to scrutinize the rock and mineral properties under different microscopes.
In afternoon session, he explained about foraminifera in palentology and displayed some pictures about benthic foraminifera which lives in epifaunal and planktonic foraminifera and its species types, apertures, etc. He also explained about Allogromida which is previously included in textularida. The seminar came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. B. Bhargavi of III B.Sc. Geology.
