Department of Chemistry conducted a Seminar on the title “Polymers and Advanced Materials” on 16th November 2022. The programme commenced with the prayer song, Ms. R.Nabitha of I B.Sc Chemistry welcomed the gathering.
Ms P.Tharanika of III B.Sc Chemistry introduced the chief guest, Dr. N. Dhanabalan, Associate Professor, Paavai Engineering College. In his lecture, he gave a brief introduction of polymers and its types, properties and structure. He also explained various types of polymerization reactions and various additives used during preparation of polymer. He gave clear explanation on different kinds of plastics and the use of thermosetting polymers as adhesives. He explained various applications of polymer in the field of medicine, drug delivery, biodegradable polymer, conducting polymers, etc. Finally he gave a detailed description of advanced materials such as polymer composites, its strength and applications. Students enthusiastically listened and had some interaction with the expert.
Ms. S.Harini of II .B.Sc Chemistry delivered the vote of thanks. Finally the programme came to an end with the National Anthem
