On behalf of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, a National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Camp was held from 28th February 2025 to 6th March 2025 at Kozhinjipatti Library.
The first day of the special camp commenced with an inaugural function on 28th February 2025 at 10:30 AM. CA. N. V. Natarajan, Chairman of Paavai Educational Institutions, presided over the event. Dr. N. Ezhili, Principal, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, and Dr. S. Sathish, NSS Coordinator, Periyar University, Salem, formally inaugurated the special camp. The Panchayat Development Officer of Kurukkapuram also graced the occasion.
Mrs. T. Sugavaneswari, NSS Programme Officer, Department of Commerce, outlined the seven-day schedule for the special camp. The inaugural function concluded with the National Anthem. Following this, Dr. N. Ezhili delivered a special address on “Students’ Participation in Protecting the Environment.”
The NSS volunteers took up the task of cleaning the Kozhinjipatti Temple and the surrounding areas. They also cleaned the Kozhinjipatti Library in preparation for the upcoming days of the camp.
The NSS volunteers began the day with meditation and activities led by Mrs. M. Banupriya and Mrs. G. Shanmugapriya, Assistant Professors, Department of English, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women. Later, the volunteers carried out fieldwork at Pannaiamman Temple, Kozhinjipatti.
Dr. Wesley, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Arignar Anna College, Namakkal, delivered a special address on “The Role of Students in Addressing Seasonal Change.” He emphasized the importance of using cloth bags instead of plastic bags, promoting the ‘Meendum Manjappai’ (Return to Yellow Bag) scheme.
The NSS Programme Officer conducted a meditation session for the volunteers, which they actively participated in.
Later, the NSS volunteers were divided into four teams to discuss reading habits and strategies to encourage reading among students.
A rally on “Avoid Drugs and Helmet Awareness” was conducted. The volunteers educated the public on the importance of wearing helmets as a life-saving measure and raised awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Additionally, the volunteers cleaned Kozhinjipatti Corporation Primary School and its surroundings, removing unwanted plants and watering the existing plants.
The volunteers undertook cleaning work at Kurukkupuram Temple and its surrounding areas.
Lt. G. Prema, Department of Commerce, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, conducted an awareness session on ‘Manavala Kalai Yoga’, guiding the NSS volunteers through practical exercises.
Dr. Immanuvel, Vice Principal, Paavai College of Engineering, delivered a special address on “Women’s Education and Its Importance”, emphasizing the need for education in empowering women.
The volunteers engaged in cleaning activities in and around Kozhinjipatti village.
A Bone Mineral Density Test Camp was organized and inaugurated by Shri CA. N. V. Natarajan, Founder & Chairman, Paavai Institutions, and Mrs. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, Paavai Institutions, along with Dr. N. Ezhili, Principal, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women.
The camp was held from 10 AM to 4 PM, where nearly 150 people had their bone density levels checked. Medical consultations were provided to help them maintain and improve bone health.
The day started with a warm-up session, where NSS volunteers engaged in physical exercises.
The volunteers then read newspapers and discussed significant news articles.
A Dengue Awareness Rally was conducted to educate the public on preventive measures against dengue.
Mr. S. Sathish, YRC Coordinator, Paavai Engineering College, delivered a special address on “Drug Abuse”, creating awareness among NSS volunteers.
The volunteers also cleaned Elankai Amman Temple and planted saplings around the temple premises.
Mrs. T. Sugavaneswari, NSS Programme Officer, delivered a motivational speech on “Women’s Safety.”
A Special Eye Camp was organized by NSS, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women. Dr. N. Ezhili inaugurated the camp, and Dr. Subha from Subam Eye Hospital, Rasipuram, conducted eye check-ups for the public, primary school students, and students of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women.
A special acknowledgment was given to Mrs. G. Shanmugapriya, Assistant Professor, Department of English, for her contribution in organizing the event. Nearly 120 people received eye check-ups, and medicines were distributed to the public and students.
Towards the end of the camp, NSS volunteers shared their experiences, reflecting on their learnings and discussing ways to enhance future camps.
