On 15th February 2013 a Tamil Debate was conducted for the UG students on the topic “Safeguarding the women lies in the hands of women themselves, family or the society”. The programme began at 2.00 p.m.in Keerthi Hall. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. M. Kanimozhi of III B.A. English. The debate was presided over by Dr. K. Uma Maheswari, Head, Department of Tamil. She introduced the topic to the audience and the session began thereafter. The first group included Ms. P. Ravitha, Ms. M. Kamatchi, I B.A. English nd K. Raveena of I B.Sc. Maths. They spoke on the important of wome being responsible for their own safety. However the second group comprising K. Induja and Kanaga Durga from I B.A. English and S. Manimegala from I B.Sc Maths argued that the family plays a key role in the safety of the women folk. The third team comprising R. Poornima – I B.A. English, M.Arthi – II B.A. English and G. Revathi from III B.A. English insisted persistently that the society is responsible for the welfare of women. The judge for the day concluded the session by saying that the foremost role is played by the family in ensuring the safety of the women. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. P. Nivetha of III B.A. English
