The Department of Chemistry successfully organized a seminar on “Green Chemistry and Environmental Protection” on 27th August 2026 at Keerthi Hall, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Ms. K. Kanchana, III B.Sc. Chemistry. The Chief Guest was introduced by Ms. K. Gopika, III B.Sc. Chemistry. The Chief Guest, Dr. Prashanthi Devi Marimuthu, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Science and Management, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, was honoured by our Principal with a memento as a token of appreciation.

The objective of the seminar was to impart knowledge about the principles and applications of green chemistry and to create awareness of sustainable development. The resource person elaborated on the 12 principles of green chemistry, including waste prevention, safer chemical synthesis, the use of renewable feedstocks, energy efficiency, and the reduction of hazardous substances.

She also discussed major environmental issues such as air, water and soil pollution, plastic waste, chemical waste management, and climate change. She emphasized the practical applications of green chemistry in industries, laboratories, agriculture, and daily life for pollution reduction and resource conservation.

Around 100 students actively participated in the seminar with great enthusiasm. An interactive Question-and-Answer session enabled the students to connect their theoretical knowledge with real-world environmental challenges.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. S. Pavithra, III B.Sc. Chemistry. The seminar was highly informative and successfully created greater environmental awareness and consciousness among the students.
