On 23.02.2019, Tamil Literary Association conducted a Debate on the topic “Is agriculture or Technology required for the country’s progress in today’s environment?” in the presence of the Principal Dr.R.Rajeswari, in Keerthi Hall at 3.00 pm in Pavai Arts and Science College for Women. The programme began with the prayer song. R.Durga of I B.Sc. Mathematics welcomed the gathering. The Principal in her Felicitation Address stated that Agriculture is the most important sector of Indian Economy. The growth of a country depends directly or indirectly on agriculture. The farmers have a bagful of debts and lead a miserable life and so they wanted their children to study medical or engineering but not agriculture. She concluded her speech saying that the growth of agriculture lies in the hands of the parents. The students who took the side of Agriculture were S.Santhi of III B.Sc. Mathematics, P.Kokila of III B.A. English, S.Kamali of I M.A. English and K.Santhiya of II B.Sc. Chemistry. The students on the side of Technology were K.Keerthika of I B.A. English, K.Dharshini of I B.B.A, K. Deevika of I B.Com and M.Kalaiselvi of I M.A. English. The students argued vigorously to convey their points and views. Students supporting Agriculture strongly argued that Agriculture is the traditional tool of Tamil People, without which Technology is of no use. The students of the opposite side said sturdily that only with the help of Technology, Agriculture survives nowadays. Dr.K.Umamaheswari, Head of the Department of Tamil gave the final verdict that India has ever remained and shall ever remain a country of the farmers. Though technology plays a vital role in agriculture, the increase in agricultural production alone can solve India’s economic problems and farmer is always the king of a nation. V.Sagithya of II B.Sc. Chemistry proposed the Vote of thanks and the activity came to an end with National Anthem.
