National Science Day Celebration 2026 – Two-Day Science Expo and Skywatch Programme

The Departments of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Geology, in association with the Namakkal Astro Club, jointly organized a two-day programme on the occasion of National Science Day at Keerthi Hall, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, on 12.02.2026 and 13.02.2026.

Day 1 (12.02.2026)

The programme began with a prayer song followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu rendered by the students. K. Indhumathi of III B.Sc. Physics delivered the welcome address. Our beloved Principal honoured the Chief Guest with a memento and spoke about the importance of science in everyday life.

The Chief Guest, Dr. P. Ramesh, Assistant Professor, NMC, was introduced by K. Shanthi of II B.Sc. Mathematics. Dr. P. Ramesh delivered a lecture titled “Skyward Spectrum: Space Science and Sky Watch.” He spoke about space science, the universe, Earth’s rotation and revolution, scattering of light, and various scientific models.

Students from Paavai Polytechnic College visited the campus to witness the innovative Science Expo and the Magical Science World demonstration. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by P. Nigalya of III B.Sc. Chemistry.

Day 2 (13.02.2026)

On the second day, students from various departments displayed science and mathematics models on diverse topics such as the Solar System, Hydrological Cycle, Chandrayaan satellite model, Water Cycle, Seismograph, Earthquake, Fossils, Oceans, Rocks and Minerals, Acid Rain, Rainwater Harvesting, Air Purification, Electrolysis of Water, Atom Model, Soap Making, Periodic Table, Oxidation Reactions, Paper Chromatography, Types of Functions, Fractions, Set Theory, Pythagoras Theorem, Trigonometric Ratios, Geometrical Shapes, Mathematical Park, Puzzle Games, Central Tendency, Angles, Sudoku, Telescope, Solar Eclipse, Heat Generator, Automatic Street Light, Thermal Power Plant, Rocket Model, Kaleidoscope, 3D Hologram, Windmill, Hydraulic Lift, Optical Illusions, Pendulums, and Lissajous Figures.

The exhibition was conducted at Madhuram Open Hall on 13.02.2026. Students from Paavai Vidhyasaram School visited the campus and actively explored the science models.

Outcomes and Benefits of the Event

Students gained practical knowledge of astronomy and the solar system through skywatch activities. They developed a better understanding of scientific concepts by observing and explaining working models. The programme enhanced critical thinking and observation skills and boosted students’ confidence through model presentations.

It also encouraged scientific curiosity and innovation, improved teamwork and communication skills, promoted active participation in science-related activities, created awareness about space, environmental issues, and modern scientific developments, and inspired students to pursue careers in science and research.
