The Department of Tamil organized a Guest Lecture on “தமிழ் பண்பாடு மற்றும் செம்மொழி சிறப்பு சொற்பொழிவு” on 27th August 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Keerthi Hall.

The programme commenced with a Prayer Song and Tamil Thai Vazhthu by the students. Ms. V. Priyadharshini, I B.A. Tamil, delivered the Welcome Address. Our Principal honoured the Chief Guest with a memento as a token of appreciation. Ms. S. Pradeepa, II B.Com., introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. R. Ramya Maheswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Tamil, Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College, Rasipuram.

In her inspiring address, the Chief Guest highlighted that Tamil is not merely a spoken language but a world-renowned classical language with over 2,000 years of antiquity and a rich literary heritage. She proudly mentioned that Tamil was the first language to be declared a Classical Language by the Government of India in 2004.

She explained the cultural values of the ancient Tamils, including hospitality, bravery, generosity, and respect for women, through interesting stories from Sangam Literature. She also elaborated on the Thinai concept and quoted Bharathidasan’s “தமிழுக்கும் அமுதென்று பேர்” to emphasize that protecting our language and carrying its rich cultural heritage forward to the next generation is our responsibility.

Students from various departments participated enthusiastically and greatly benefited from the lecture.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. T. Mithra, II B.A. Tamil, followed by the National Anthem.
