Hands-On Training on “Statistical Data Analysis Using R Programming”

The Department of Mathematics organized a Hands-On Training on “Statistical Data Analysis Using R Programming” at the Computer Lab on 14.08.2026 at 1.00 p.m. Mrs. Thavamani K, Assistant Professor, KSR College of Arts and Science for Women, served as the resource person for the training session.

She introduced the students to the basics of R programming and its importance in statistical analysis. The session focused mainly on practical learning and coding rather than theoretical concepts. The resource person explained the R programming environment and demonstrated how to write and execute R codes.Students were given hands-on practice to understand different statistical functions in R. They learned how to enter, organize, and analyse statistical data using simple R commands. Various coding examples were demonstrated step by step for better understanding. The students actively followed the instructions and executed the codes on their computers. The resource person also explained how R can be used to perform statistical calculations efficiently. Students practiced programs related to mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and other statistical measures. They were also introduced to basic data visualization techniques using R. The training included several practical exercises that encouraged students to develop their coding skills. Students enthusiastically participated in the activities and tried the codes independently. The hands-on approach helped students understand the connection between statistics, data, and programming. The session also motivated students to explore R programming for academic projects and future research activities. The programme provided valuable practical exposure to statistical data analysis and strengthened the students’ confidence in R programming.Overall, the training session was highly informative, interactive, practical, and enjoyable for the students.
