The Department of Geology, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, Anaipalayam, successfully organized a National Conference on “Geological and Geotechnical Technologies: Career Pathways and Industry Opportunities” on 31 July 2026.
The conference aimed to provide a common platform for academicians, researchers, scientists, industry experts, and students to exchange ideas on recent advancements, emerging technologies, and innovative research in the fields of geology and geotechnical sciences. It also sought to promote interdisciplinary collaboration among academia, research institutions, government organizations, and industry to address contemporary challenges in Earth Sciences. The major areas of discussion included geological exploration, geotechnical engineering, sustainable resource management, environmental conservation, geospatial technologies, mining innovations, and infrastructure development. The conference also highlighted career opportunities and future prospects in the geoscience sector, inspiring young researchers and aspiring geologists.
The programme commenced with a prayer song followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu rendered by the students. Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, inaugurated the conference by lighting the Kuthuvilakku. The presidential address was delivered by Shri CA.N.V. Natarajan, Founder and Chairman of Paavai Institutions, who also honoured the Chief Guest with a shawl and memento. In his address, he emphasized the importance of geology in everyday life and encouraged students to explore the vast opportunities available in the field.
The Chief Guest, Dr. P. Thangaraju, Geologist, Partner and Approved Geologist, Geo Exploration and Mining Solutions (GEMS), Salem, was introduced by Ms. S. Subashini, II B.Com. CA. The Guest of Honour, Dr. R. Suresh, Associate Professor, Department of Geology, Periyar University, Salem, delivered an insightful lecture on the significance of geology and its diverse applications in modern society.
The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members representing various colleges. A total of 79 students and 3 faculty members from other institutions participated in the event. Among them, 45 students presented research papers through poster and oral presentation sessions, showcasing their knowledge, research aptitude, and presentation skills. Nearly eight students were honoured with Best Presentation Awards in recognition of their outstanding performances. The prizes and certificates were distributed by the Chairman.
Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Correspondent, delivered the felicitation address, appreciating the efforts of the organizers and encouraging students to pursue research and innovation in the field of Earth Sciences. Participants from various colleges also shared positive feedback, appreciating the informative sessions and the opportunity to interact with experts.
The conference significantly enhanced students’ critical thinking, scientific observation, research aptitude, and confidence in presenting their ideas. It fostered curiosity, innovation, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the importance of geology in sustainable development and society.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem rendered by the students.
