The Department of Business Administration organized an Alumni Guest Lecture on 06.04.2026 at Keerthi Hall. The session was delivered by Ms. R. Janarthini, Relationship Officer, at HDFC Bank, Coimbatore. who belongs to the Batch 2022 – 2025 and Ms. S. Preethi, Process Executive at Cognizant, Coimbatore who belongs to the Batch 2022 – 2025.
Objective : The objective of the session, on Communication Skills for Career Growth aims to help third-year students to understand the importance of effective communication in professional settings. It focuses on developing key skills such as verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, presentation techniques, and professional etiquette. The session also intends to provide real-world insights from the alumni speaker, bridging the gap between academic learning and workplace expectations. Additionally, it encourages students to build confidence in expressing ideas clearly and professionally during interviews, group discussions, and workplace interactions.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Haripriya A from III-B.Com(CA). The beloved Principal honoured the Chief Guest with a memento. The Chief Guest was formally introduced by S.Keerthika III-B.Com & .Pradeepa I-B.Com. The session aimed to provide students with valuable industry insights and practical guidance for career development. The programme featured distinguished alumnae Ms. R. Janarthini, B.B.A (2022–2025), currently working as a Relationship Officer at HDFC Bank, Coimbatore, and Ms. S. Preethi, B.B.A (2022–2025), Process Executive at Cognizant, Coimbatore. They addressed the gathering on the topic “Communication Skill for Career Growth”, sharing their personal experiences, workplace challenges, and the importance of effective communication in achieving professional success. The speakers emphasized the role of confidence, clarity, and interpersonal skills in building a strong career foundation
Janarthini (B.B.A, 2022–2025), shared her professional experience in the banking sector, explaining the dynamic and target-driven nature of her role, which involves interacting with customers, understanding their financial needs, and promoting various banking products such as savings accounts, loans, and credit cards. She highlighted how her job has helped her develop strong communication, interpersonal, and sales skills, along with practical knowledge in customer relationship management.
She also provided valuable insights into the recruitment process, discussing the interview panel and HR rounds, and sharing commonly asked questions such as self-introduction, knowledge about the organization, handling customers, and demonstrating sales ability. In the HR round, she emphasized questions related to strengths and weaknesses, willingness to work under targets, relocation flexibility, and career goals, stressing the importance of confidence, clarity, and a positive attitude. Further, she guided students on how to apply for jobs through the official careers portal, job platforms like LinkedIn, Naukri, and Indeed, as well as through campus placements and employee referrals.
Preethi (B.B.A, 2022–2025), who is currently working as a Process Executive at Cognizant. During the session, she shared her professional experience at Cognizant, highlighting the structured and process-oriented nature of her role, which involves handling business operations, managing client requirements, and ensuring quality and accuracy in assigned tasks. She explained how her job has helped her develop analytical thinking, communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a fast-paced corporate environment.
She also provided a detailed overview of the recruitment process, including the interview panel and HR rounds. She discussed commonly asked questions such as self-introduction, basic aptitude and communication-based questions, and situational scenarios to assess problem-solving skills. In the HR round, she highlighted questions related to strengths and weaknesses, adaptability, willingness to work in shifts, relocation flexibility, and career goals, emphasizing the importance of confidence, clarity, and professionalism. She shared specific guidance about walk-in interviews conducted in Coimbatore, mentioning venues like TIDEL Park and noting that Cognizant interviews are often held every Saturday. She advised students to focus on key areas such as aptitude, communication skills, basic technical or domain knowledge, and professional etiquette while attending these interviews. The vote of thanks was proposed by R.Dhivya Dharshinee, III-B.Com. The programme concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants.
A total of 105 participants attended the event, including 99 students and 6 faculty members.
Outcome By the end of the session, students will be able to demonstrate improved communication skills essential for career advancement. They will gain practical knowledge of how to present themselves effectively in professional environments, participate confidently in discussions, and convey their ideas with clarity. Students will also understand industry expectations regarding communication and be better prepared for recruitment processes such as interviews and presentations. Overall, the lecture will enhance their readiness to transition from academic life to professional careers.
