The Department of Mathematics at Pavai Arts and Science College for Women proudly organized an insightful Guest Lecture on “Numerical Methods and Its Applications” on August 6, 2025, in Keerthi Hall.
The program commenced with a prayer song, setting a contemplative tone for the event. V. Keerthana, II B.Sc. Mathematics, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speaker, Dr. K. Vimhala, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Paavai Engineering College.
Dr. Vimhala delivered an engaging lecture on the importance of numerical methods in tackling complex mathematical problems that cannot be solved exactly. She explained how numerical techniques are applied in real-life problem-solving using computers and mathematical models. Using simple examples and real-world cases, she discussed topics such as solving equations through iterative methods and integrating numerical methods with computer programming and simulation tools. Her lecture was both informative and interactive, and it was well-received by the students.
The session concluded with a Question-and-Answer segment, where students actively engaged with queries on career opportunities, project ideas, and the application of numerical methods in research and industry. Dr. Vimhala’s responses provided valuable insights and guidance, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
B. Sowmiya, III B.Sc. Mathematics, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Vimhala for her enlightening session. The program ended with the National Anthem.
Overall, the guest lecture was a resounding success, providing students with an enriching learning experience and broadening their understanding of numerical methods and their practical applications.
