Language is an important tool for teaching and learning. Mother tongue has its own weightage in the Curriculum. Students focus upon equity education based on variety and characteristics of Tamil language & Literature. The Department of Tamil was established in the year 2009. It offers Tamil under Part – I for all the first year and second year undergraduate students of the college. The Department of Tamil, functions with well qualified and experienced staff members. The faculty members are involved in triggering passion towards literary creativity among the students. The aim of the department is to inculcate the values of Tamil culture in the undergraduate learners majoring on other disciplines through the study of Tamil language and literature among undergraduates.

Inauguration of Muthamilzh mandram held on 20th December 2011
The inaugural function of Muthamil Mandram of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, was held on Tuesday 20th December 2011 at Keerthi Hall.
The Correspondent, Smt. Mangai Natarajan, Paavai Institutions inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp of knowledge.
The chairman CA.N.V.Natarajan, Paavai Institutions, presided over the function and stated that “Books are our best friends” from the womb to the tomb. He said that from childhood onwards people entertain contradictory thoughts. So, by reading books that could be avoided, because books could develop our words and thoughts. The habitual actions which help us to make ourselves high must be developed. He insisted that not only the text books but also the other books must be read by the students. He affirmed that knowledge is endless and the pursuit of seeking knowledge for self-promotion through books should continue.
The chief guest Dr.Arasu Parameswaran, spoke on women’s education. During his talk, he said that women as Sakthi wield a supreme power and one can ward off the evil in the presence of Maha-Sakthi. The speaker extolled the educational services of Paavai Institutions and acknowledged that their participation in elevating the status of higher education, especially women education, is a great boon to the stakeholders. He continued that ninety percent of women are getting education nowadays and they are becoming more intelligent. He emphasized that the known is always a drop and the unknown is an ocean and therefore one has to learn forever in order to keep growing. He encouraged the students to show a reverential attitude to Tamil, which is a classical language. He quoted a few memorable lines both from the ancient and modern poetry. He also infused a sense of humour while addressing the audience.
The Correspondent, Smt.MangaiNatarajan, Paavai Institutions, felicitated the gathering. Earlier, Selvi.K.AayishaBegam of II B.A (English) welcomed the gathering. The office bearers of the Mandram were introduced and the pledge was taken by all the members to promote the growth of Tamil language. Selvi.P.Saranya of III B.Sc (Maths) proposed a vote of thanks.
The Principal, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, Dean, Faculty Development, HOD of English Department and lecturers and students of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women participated in the function.
