UG Seminar on the topic, ‘Women and Ethnic Beliefs in English Literature’ was conducted by the Department of English of Pavai Arts and Science College for Women on 15.09.2017 in Keerthi Hall. All UG students of the department of English attended the Seminar. The Inaugural session of the programme started with the prayer song by the students. Ms.P.Gangalakshmi, II B.A. English welcomed the gathering. Dr.R.Rajeswari, Principal felicitated the gathering. The principal in her Felicitation Address, stated that Literature provides more values and useful concepts in different genres to women and the society. She asked the students to grasp those concepts and ideals while learning literature and use them in day to day life to develop themselves, family and the society. She then released the volume of articles presented by the students along with CD. Mrs.N.Kalaiarasi, the Head, Department of English presented the prelude to the seminar. In her speech, she narrated the role of women portrayed in literature through the ages. She also said that though women of this era are strong, determined with self-identity, they still suffer in the clutch of male suppression and only women are expected to follow the traditional values in the society. She further said that Sita from Ramayana to Sita from Nagamandala strictly adhere to the traditional values till their last breath, but they only suffer a lot to prove their chastity. She concluded the speech asking the students to be bold enough to face every situation in their life and learn more from the seminar papers to be presented by the students. Soon after the Inaugural function, Paper presentation session was held in which twenty two students presented their papers. The Valedictory function of the Seminar started at 4.00 p.m. The students who presented the papers came out with their words of feedback. Dr.R.Rajeswari, Principal, Pavai Arts and Science College for Women, in the Valedictory Address said that students should ignore the negative aspects and hold on to positive perspectives in their life. She also said that women should overcome all hurdles in their life with strong determination without breaking the traditional values and thus bringing reputation and peace to the family and the society, which in turn will help them for the growth of their children too. Then she distributed certificates to the paper presenters. Ms.S.Priyetharsine of I B.A. English proposed the Vote of Thanks and the seminar came to an end with National Anthem.
